Pretreatments

Industrial coating is a long and complex process that requires a series of pretreatments and preparations in order to deliver high-quality and durable results. Take a look at how we do it:

1. Surface cleaning

Before we can start the actual paint application, it’s important to clean the surface and this process can be done through 3 different methods:

  • Degreasing: the removal of oils, grease, and contaminated materials with the use of solvents and cleansers.
  • Sandpapering: the use of abrasive tools to remove rust, old paint, and any other contaminants.
  • Sandblasting: The most superficial part of a surface is chipped away through abrasion with a strong jet of sand and air.
  • Chemical wash: we apply chemicals to remove any residuals and prepare the surface.

2. Pickling

It’s a chemical treatment that removes metallic oxides from the surface. This is extremely important as it guarantees better adhesion for the paint, especially when steel and foil are involved.

3. Phosphating

It creates a layer of phosphate on the metal surface, enhancing its endurance to corrosion, and it allows a good base to the paint adhesion. There are different types of phosphating: iron, zinc, and manganese.

4. Water mains rinsing

This process ensure the efficient removal of residuals and contaminants that could compromise the end result of the painting. An accurate clean ensures not only that the surface is clean, but also enhance the paint adhesion and improves the general final look.

5. Demineralized water rinsing

Also known as distilled water, it’s a type of water that is purified to remove minerals and any kind of impurity. It’s a key component to ensure precision and reliability in the salt spray test – so that we can be sure the materials can resist against any corrosive condition, even the most extreme.

MARA GROUP AND THE ENVIRONMENT.

Our company cares for the environment: that’s why we ensure an eco-friendly approach in every single step of the process, from start to finish.

Choosing the materials: we use eco-friendly paint, water-based paints with no solvents, and recycled materials to keep it low impact.

Procedural process: we are committed to keep energy efficiency in our operations and rigorously manage wastes, promoting recycling and reuse.

Delivery and logistics: we plan efficient routes to minimise emission in our deliveries.

We believe innovation and responsibility go hand in hand. Our commitment for an eco-friendly approach encourages us to find innovative ideas for a greener future. We don’t want our operations to be only respectful of the planet we live in: we want it to thrive.

FAQ

Wash with iron or zinc phosphates, sandblasting, demineralized water rinsing, chemical paint stripping, chemical metallic conversions, and masking.

It is possible only through specific pretreatments such as sandblasting – but always with the same durable and high-quality result.

Our company follows strict regulations and we have ISO 9001:2015 certification that ensure the reliability and quality of our productions.

Both liquid and powder coating can resist against use, harsh weather, and corrosion. We ensure this type of endurance thank to our pretreatments.

• Sandblasting is a mechanical pretreatment which uses a strong jet of sand and air to remove old paint, rust, and dirt.

• Paint stripping can either be a chemical or thermal procedure which removes the paint film. We use this with the thinnest and most fragile materials.
